Suburban frogs
This summer I've been hearing frogs at night like never before. And wondering where there was enough water to support so many frogs in this neighborhood.
Tonight I walked down to the beach to watch a fireworks display -- and solved the frog mystery.
There's a house a few doors down the street that's empty most of the time. It used to be inhabited for a month or two in summer and sometimes on long weekends in spring and fall. But for the past 2 or 3 years the only activity has been now and then when somebody comes by to make sure it's still standing, I suppose.
Apparently, they don't empty the swimming pool (yech!) and the frog population has exploded.
Suburban frog heaven.
